Hello, I am working on a 1991 Ford Mustang LX with a 2.3L 4 cly. in it. I am changing it over to a 302 carb motor with an auto C-6 trans. Could some one tell me what wires I must use for all my gauges to work in my car with the carb motor. I also need to know what parts I am going to need to change it over.

I have a Mustang that has been transplanted with a 302 and it was a 4 banger before. As far a gauges going there is not one wire that is going to make all them work. The oil and water may work the tack will not. I have replaced the water and oil with after market gauges as to know that they are right and not guessing if they are correct. It is to costly to take a chance on a factory gauge on a new rebuilt motor so i when't the auto meter way. I hope this helps some but it still don't tell you what wire to go for.

Don't know if these will help, but here they are anyway... There are other color coded wiring diagrams also at: http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang

Sounds like quite a job BW, Assume you have a nice heated garage. The 302 is a great engine, let me ask...is this to be a custom or a race car?

Might want to go with a C4 instead of a C6. The C4 can be made plenty strong for a real stout 302 plus it's lighter. The C6 is one strong trans but is pretty wide and may not fit the trans tunnel ( I'm almost going to guess it won't fit the Mustangs trans tunnel) and although crazy strong it will take a good bit of power to turn it since the internals are so heavy.
I don't know if you're going to street drive it or not so you may have a real problem getting it inspected since all emission stuff should be in place. |
