That is my neighbors 66 supersport. Since the picture was taken he did a body on resto, it is now Corvette yellow. powered by a "355" TH350. He really has not had her out of the garage since the paint.
when this picture was taken we were on our way to Beaver Springs |

We had it down several times. He has owned the car 23 or 24 years, probably 10 of those years it sat in the back yard without being touched. The motor was pulled and refreshed as well as the trans. We kept having issues with the engine breaking up at high RPM's replaced carb distributer blah blah blah, anyhow got it worked through then he did the body and hasn't moved it since. Even with the issues it was a consistant low 12 second car. He also built his 16 year old daughter a 72 Nova that she plans on racing at Beaver Springs

Somehow just saw your photos... I love those '67-72 Chevy trucks. That's a great looking truck you have there! I have a '67 C-10 stepside (project)... planning to make a rat project out of it. Sand the paint flat (faux-tina effect), lower it, etc.
I've always thought about building a longbed 4WD as using it as a daily driver. My thoughts were: 3/4 ton axles w/lockers, big block (454 or 502), 6" lift with 35" BFG Mud Terrains (not too high - not too low), vintage air, dynamat.... etc., etc. Of course, if I actually did it, I'd probably not want to drive it in the winter or plow snow with it (like my last so-called "plow truck"). Same thing happened with that ('84 Chevy K-20). What sort of drivetrain in your K-10? Any interesting plans for it? |

Does the stepside in the Auto Connection Happen to be yours, I gawk at that every week. Oh, and by the way of all the cars that I have owned over the years my favorite next to my truck of course, was my 68 Chevelle SS. I bought it from a junk yard in 1973 and put it back together. It had a 1958 "348" wedgehead with a muncie 4 speed. I sold it because someone told me I needed to grow up, it passed thru several hands before I saw it wrapped around a telephone pole on Crooked Creek Road in Huntingdon. I still scoff at this person when I see him. Anyway, the pick-up will be a dark blue metallic with grey leather(power heated seats already in place) interior. I think i will stick with the small block(350) , and I am definitley changing over to an automatic of some variety, don't really know yet. I look every week in A.C. for the perfect donor vehicle. several years ago the was one from Tyrone with a corvette engine that was wrecked, but I got there too late. The truck has a 4" suspension lift with 35's, like you said not too low, but us old people can still get in and out of it. The most important thing is my wife and I enjoy this truck together, since we have an "empty nest" now. For some unexplained reason, my goal is to take this truck on the "Hot Rod" power tour, or at least some portion of it! We also have a powder coating and chrome shop(chosmic chrome) so hopefully we will be able to dress it up a little more. Well, that's my story and i'm sticking to it.

Yup, the C-10 is mine. A little rough around the edges, but lots of potential. It was for sale locally and I could see the potential in it when I passed by it every day. I bought it in 2005 and had actually planned to make a rat truck project out of it... Take all the shine off the paint, fog it with some black, etc. -- lower it -- rebuild the drivetrain (I wanted some horsepower - 400-500 anyway) -- maybe some old barn wood for the bed floor -- and of course the Auto Connection logo on the door (distressed) -- etc. But you need time and a few extra bucks to complete any project. So like everything else as of late, it's on hold.
You'll definitely have to get some pics on the forum when your truck is done - or better yet, document the whole thing as you go. I hope you get the chance to do the Power Tour. If you do, it would be great to see some pics of that too! Always scan those reader ads early if you can. It seems like the good stuff goes quick! A quick tip: You can usually read the issue online Tuesday evening (as long as we make our normal time deadline). We can relate to the empty nest here. Both of our daughters are in college now and it's really different. It's great that you and your wife share the enjoyment of the hobby too. Although she's on overload sometimes and I have to give her a break from it, my wife enjoys it too. She'd like to build a rat rod together some day. Cool! And I too have had people tell me that I need to grow up for the same reasons. Never gonna happen! And thanks, by the way, for being part of our new forum! -Arnie |
